What does a yacht advertised at €200,000 per week really cost?
The advertised weekly rate is only the base charter fee.
Most Mediterranean yacht charters operate under a plus expenses structure. In addition to the base rate, charterers normally need to budget for APA, VAT and crew gratuity.
The APA is commonly around 30 to 35 percent of the base charter fee. It is used by the captain to pay for expenses such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and local transfers during the charter.
Any unused APA is returned to the charterer at the end of the trip. If the expenses exceed the amount initially paid, the APA may need to be replenished during the charter.
VAT is calculated separately and depends on the country, embarkation point and planned itinerary.
For example, a yacht advertised at €150,000 per week could result in a total charter budget above €220,000 once APA and VAT are included.
This is why it is important to compare yachts based on the complete estimated cost rather than the advertised rate alone.
